Precipitation anomaly in the Amazon Basin
Legends

Current conditions

Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 2000 a 2023. Between February 27 and March 27, 2024, the rainfall pattern remains below the climatology for a large part of the monitored area, with a precipitation deficit over the main course of the Amazon River in Peruvian territory, the hydrographic basins of the Aripuanã, Beni, Branco, Coari, Guaporé, Içá, Japurá, Javari, Ji-Paraná, Juruá, Juruena, Madeira, Mamoré, Marañon, basins on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Amazonas, the northeast and northwest of the state of Pará, Napo, Negro, Purus, Tefé, Teles Pires, Ucayali, Xingu and the main course of the Solimões River. The main course of the Amazon River in Brazilian territory showed rainfall above the climatology for the period, characterized by a positive rainfall anomaly, while the Abacaxis, Curuá Una, Iriri, Jutaí and Tapajós river basins, alternating areas with positive and negative anomalies, were considered to have observed rainfall close to the climatology for the period. The multi-seasonal forecast model indicates a reduction in the precipitation deficit over a large part of the monitored area, with an increase in rainfall over the south and north of the region in the coming weeks.
