Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 2000 a 2023. Between April 9 and May 8, 2024, the rainfall pattern remains below climatological levels in the west of the monitored area, with rainfall deficits in the river basins of the Beni, Coari, Içá, Ji-Paraná, Juruá, Jutaí, Madeira, Marañon, the basins on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the states of Amazonas and Pará, Negro, Purus, Tefé, Ucayali, Xingu and the main course of the Solimões River. In recent weeks, higher volumes of rainfall have been observed over the eastern Amazon, with positive rainfall anomalies characterizing areas of various river basins. At the moment, the river basins of the Branco, Curuá Una, Iriri, the left bank basins in the northwest of the state of Pará and Napo are characterized by rainfall above climatology. The main course of the Amazon River in Brazilian and Peruvian territory, the basins of the Abacaxis, Aripuanã, Guaporé, Japurá, Javari, Juruena, Mamoré, Tapajós and Teles Pires rivers, alternating areas with positive and negative anomalies, were considered to have observed rainfall close to the climatology for the period. The multi-seasonal forecast model indicates a predominance of rainfall below the climatology over the Eastern Amazon and a predominance of rainfall above the climatology over isolated areas of the Western Amazon in the coming weeks.
