Current conditions

Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 2000 a 2023. Between April 16 and May 15, 2024, the rainfall pattern remains below climatological levels in a large part of the monitored area, with rainfall deficits in the river basins of the Abacaxis, Aripuanã, Beni, Coari, Curuá Una, Guaporé, Içá, Ji-Paraná, Juruá, Juruena, Jutaí, Madeira, Mamoré, Marañon, basins on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Amazonas, Negro, Purus, Tapajós, Tefé, Ucayali, Xingu and the main course of the Solimões River. In recent weeks, higher volumes of rainfall have been observed over the north of the monitored area, with positive rainfall anomalies characterizing areas of various river basins, currently the course of the Amazon in Peruvian territory, the Branco, Javari, left bank basins of the Amazon River in the northwest of the state of Pará and Napo characterized by rainfall above climatology. The main course of the Amazon River in Brazilian territory, the Iriri and Japurá river basins and the basins on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Pará and the Teles Pires river basin, alternating areas with positive and negative anomalies, were considered to have observed rainfall close to the climatology for the period. The multi-seasonal forecast model indicates a predominance of rainfall below the climatology over the Eastern Amazon and the south of the region and a predominance of rainfall above the climatology over areas in the northwest of the Western Amazon in the coming weeks.
