Precipitation anomaly in the Amazon Basin
Legends

Current conditions

Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 2000 a 2023. Between April 30 and May 29, 2024, the rainfall pattern remains below climatological levels in a large part of the monitored area, with rainfall deficits in the river basins of the Abacaxis, Aripuanã, Beni, Coari, Curuá Una, Guaporé, Iriri, Javari, Ji-Paraná, Juruá, Juruena, Jutaí, Madeira, Mamoré, Marañon, basins on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Amazonas, Purus, Tapajós, Tefé, Teles Pires, Ucayali, Xingu and the main course of the Solimões River. In recent weeks, higher volumes of precipitation have been observed over the north and northwest of the monitored area, with the course of the Amazon in Brazilian and Peruvian territory, the basins of the Branco and Japurá rivers and the basins on the left bank of the Amazon in the northwest of the state of Pará and Napo characterized by positive precipitation anomalies. The Içá and Negro river basins and the basins on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Pará, alternating areas with positive and negative anomalies, were considered to have observed rainfall close to the climatology for the period. The multi-seasonal forecast model indicates a predominance of rainfall below the climatology in almost the entire monitored area, with rainfall above the climatology only in the north of the region over the Rio Branco and Rio Negro basins.
