Precipitation anomaly in the Amazon Basin
Legends

Current conditions

Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 2000 a 2023. Between May 7 and June 5, 2024, the rainfall pattern remains below climatological levels in a large part of the monitored area, with rainfall deficits in the hydrographic basins of the Aripuanã, Beni, Coari, Guaporé, Içá, Iriri, Japurá, Javari, Ji-Paraná, Juruá, Juruena, Jutaí, Madeira, Mamoré, Marañon, Napo, Purus, Tapajós, Teles Pires, Ucayali, Xingu and the main course of the Solimões River. In recent weeks, higher volumes of precipitation have been observed over the north and northwest of the monitored area, with the course of the Amazon in Brazilian and Peruvian territory, the Branco river basins, the left bank basins of the Amazon in the northeast and northwest of the state of Pará characterized by positive precipitation anomalies. The Abacaxis, Curuá Una, Negro Tefé river basins and the basins on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Amazonas, alternating areas with positive and negative anomalies, were considered to have observed precipitation close to the climatology for the period. The multi-seasonal forecast model indicates a predominance of rainfall below the climatology in most of the monitored area, with a predominance of rainfall above the climatology only in the west of the region over the basins of the Abacaxis, Japurá and Jutaí rivers and the main course of the Solimões River.
