Precipitation anomaly in the Amazon Basin
Legends

Current conditions

Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 2000 a 2024. Between June 24 to July 23, 2025, below-average rainfall in the monitored area resulted in a precipitation deficit over the main course of the Amazon River in Peruvian territory, the watersheds of the Abacaxis, Beni, Coari, Guaporé, Içá, Iriri, Japurá, Javari, Juruá, Jutaí, Madeira, Mamoré, Marañon, Napo, Purus, Tapajós, Tefé, Ucayali, and the main course of the Solimões River; rainfall above climatological norms was observed over the main course of the Amazon River in Brazilian territory, the watersheds of the Aripuanã, Branco, Ji-Paraná, Juruena, and the left bank basins of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Amazonas and in the northeast and northwest of the state of Pará; rainfall close to normal in the Curuá Una, Negro, Teles Pires, and Xingu river basins. The multi-model indicates for the coming weeks a predominance of rainfall close to climatology over much of the monitored region; rainfall below climatology is forecast to be concentrated over the central region, near the main course, at the headwaters of the Amazon River in Peruvian territory and at the mouth of the Amazon River; and rainfall above climatology is concentrated in areas north of the monitored region over the tributaries of the left bank of the Negro- Solimões-Amazonas system.
