Current conditions

Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 1998 a 2025. Between July 7 to August 5, 2026, rainfall below climatological norms resulted in a precipitation deficit along the main course of the Amazon River in Brazilian and Peruvian territory; in the watersheds of the Abacaxis, Branco, Içá, and Japurá rivers; in the watersheds on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Amazonas and the northeast and northwest of the state of Pará; and in the watersheds of the Napo, Negro, and the main course of the Solimões River; rainfall above the climatological average was recorded in the watersheds of the Aripuanã, Beni, Coari, Guaporé, Iriri, Javari, JI-Paraná, Juruena, Jutaí, Madeira, Mamoré, Tapajós, Tefé, Teles Pires, and Xingu rivers; rainfall close to normal levels recorded in the Curuá Una, Juruá, Marañon, Purus, and Ucayali river basins. The multi-model indicates, for the period from August 5 to August 11, 2026, forecast of above-normal precipitation over the western part of the monitored region, along the main course of the Amazon River in Peruvian territory, and in the watersheds of the Aripuanã, Içá, Japurá, Javari, Juruá, Jutaí, Madeira, Napo, and Purus rivers. Forecast of a precipitation deficit concentrated in the northern part of the monitored area, along the main course of the Amazon River in Brazilian territory, the Branco and Curuá Una river basins, the left-bank basins of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Amazonas, the northeast and northwest of the state of Pará, and the Negro River basin. Rainfall close to climatological norms (white) is forecast for the remaining river basins.
