Current conditions

Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 2000 a 2023. Between 16 de January and February 14, 2024, the rainfall pattern remains below climatological levels in most of the monitored area, with a precipitation deficit on the main course of the Amazon River in Brazilian territory, in the basins of the Abacaxis, Aripuanã, Beni, Branco, Curuá Una, Guaporé, Içá, Japurá, Ji-Paraná, Juruá, Juruena, Mamoré and Marañon rivers, Içá, Japurá, Ji-Paraná, Juruá, Juruena, Mamoré, Marañon, basins on the left bank of the Amazon in the northeast of the state of Amazonas, the northeast and northwest of the state of Pará, Napo, Negro, Purus, Tefé, Teles Pires, Ucayali and the main course of the Solimões River. The main course of the Amazon River in Peruvian territory and the Coari, Iriri, Javari, Madeira, Tapajós and Xingu river basins, alternating areas with positive and negative anomalies, were considered to have observed rainfall close to the climatology for the period. The sub-seasonal multi-model forecast indicates a rainfall deficit again prevailing over a large part of the monitored area, concentrated in the east of the region, in the coming weeks, and rainfall close to normal over the river basins located in the west of the region.
