Precipitation anomaly in the Amazon Basin
Legends

Current conditions

Maps of observed precipitation conditions, individual graphics by basin are produced from MERGE/GPM data generated by INPE/CPTEC, considering the period from de 2000 a 2023. Between October 22 and November 20, 2024, the picture of rainfall below climatology remains in the north of the monitored area with precipitation deficit (orange), over the Amazon River in Brazilian territory, the basins of the Aripuanã, Branco, Coari, Curuá Una, Japurá, Juruá, Jutaí rivers, the basins on the left bank of the Amazon River in the northeast of the state of Amazonas and the northeast and northwest of the state of Pará, Negro, Tefé, Teles Pires and the main course of the Solimões River. With areas of positive precipitation anomalies (blue) over the Amazon River in Peruvian territory, the Beni, Mamoré, Marañon, Napo, Tapajós and Ucayali river basins. The Abacaxis, Guaporé, Içá, Iriri, Javari, Ji-Paraná, Juruena, Madeira, Purus and Xingu river basins alternated areas with positive and negative anomalies, and were considered to have precipitation close to the climatology for the period. The multi-seasonal forecast model indicates rainfall close to climatology predominating over a large part of the monitored region and negative rainfall anomalies predominating over the basins to the east of the monitored region, mainly in the period between November 27 and December 3, 2024.
